In some places that I have lived, spring announces itself with flowers. Here, it is with birds. The redwing blackbirds and mountain bluebirds have returned. Geese are flying north and sandhill cranes are resting on the river and refueling in the fields. I love the sounds of spring. And given the forecast for the next week (snow and temperatures around 0 F.), it's probably best that the flowers remain underground for a little longer.
